Reflections from Recital Week

What an incredible celebration! A huge congratulations to all of our dancers for a beautiful, joy-filled recital. It was a privilege to gather with our community and share the work that’s been building all year long. We’ve had the chance to celebrate with each class this week, watching their recital pieces together and recognizing just how far they’ve come.

The pieces performed on stage were designed to be seen live—to capture the energy, emotion, and connection that only exists in a theatre. While video recordings offer a fun keepsake, they’re never meant to be a tool to pick dancers apart or scrutinize every moment. That’s not what this is about.

Instead, every year, I invite all our dancers to take a moment to reflect—both on what felt amazing and on what they learned.

Reflection One: What Was Great?

  • What joy did you feel on stage?

  • What’s a memory you’ll take with you?

  • Was it the thrill of performing? The sound of the applause? A moment backstage with your friends?

  • Did you feel proud of something you accomplished this year?

Hold onto that. That’s the spark we work so hard to ignite.

Reflection Two: What Did You Learn?

Every performance is also a learning experience.

  • Did you realize you needed more fuel or water to keep your energy up?

  • Did you discover that packing and labeling your costumes helps you feel more prepared?

  • Did you wish you'd come to more classes to feel more confident with the choreography?

These aren’t mistakes—they’re lessons. And we grow when we take the time to notice them.

I care about nurturing confidence, creativity, and community. This recital was a shining example of all three. I’m so proud of our dancers and so grateful to our families for making this celebration possible. Thank you for another beautiful year. Here’s to everything we’ve learned and everything we’ll become.

With gratitude,
L.
