Beginner Adult Dance Sessions
We offer adult dance classes year-round, running September through June. For those who prefer a shorter commitment, our 6-Week Beginner Sessions are a great way to start, or return to, your dance journey.
These welcoming classes are designed for a range of experience levels, offering an accessible introduction (or reintroduction) to dance technique in a supportive, fun environment.
Beginner Adult Sessions 2025-2026 Season
Tuesdays, October 7- 28 (4-weeks)
Tuesdays, January 13- February 17 (6-weeks)
Tuesdays, March 3- April 7 (6-weeks)
What to Expect
The entrance to the studio is a glass door on the right-hand side of 30 Harvey Road. Ring the bell to enter. It is expected that the last person to arrive answers the door for the next person.
Everyone must remove their shoes in the entrance.
There is on-street parking available.
The dress code for these classes is relaxed. Most folks wear leggings and t-shirts, however traditional attire is welcome. If you do not have ballet shoes for the ballet class, socks are fine. The most important thing is that the instructor can clearly see your ankles, knees, hips, and shoulders.
Adult Beginner Styles
Ballet
Ballet syllabus is based on a progression of exercises preparing the body and mind for technique that develops good placement, coordination, strength, grace, and musicality. The technique is specific and concentrates on turn-out, body line and placement. Adult classes consist of a short stretch, a centre barre, movement across the floor all culminating in a short combination. If you previously studied ballet or have ever wanted to live your “ballet fantasy” this is the class for you.
Jazz
If you love past and present popular music, stylized, energetic movement, then jazz dance is for you. Jazz is a technical class that develops skill, performance and musicality.
Modern
Modern dance is a highly expressive style of dance that challenges the structured dance technique of classical ballet. Its focus is expression, rather than following a rigid set of postures or technical positions that ballet dancers are trained in. Modern dance movements are considered freeform and fluid and are often inspired by other dance styles—like African dance, ballet, and folk dance. Though modern dance technique is considered more relaxed and natural than ballet, it can require considerable core work and strength.
