What Should First-Time Recital Participants Know?
Goals: Our year-end recital serves two main purposes:
To celebrate a year of hard work, showcasing how our dancers have grown and developed.
To provide an opportunity to learn about professionalism, production, and performance.
For our Wee Dancers, the focus is on offering a joyous, stress-free introduction to performance. As dancers progress, we aim to prepare them for future performance opportunities, emphasizing stage etiquette and teamwork.
Attendance: Maintaining excellent attendance is crucial. Dancers are required to attend both the staging and dress rehearsals to ensure a cohesive and safe performance.
Costumes: Please refer to the sections below detailing requirements for undergarments, tights, shoes, makeup, and hair.
Traditions: It's customary for dancers to receive flowers at the end of a recital—a tradition dating back to the 1820s. While not mandatory, many families choose to participate.
What are the Rehearsal Requirements?
Staging Rehearsal:
Date: Friday, May 16, 2025.
Location: Holy Heart Theatre
Attendance: Mandatory for all dancers. A detailed schedule will be provided closer to the date.
Dress Rehearsal:
Date: Saturday, May 17, 2025
Time: 1:00 PM–4:00 PM
Location: Holy Heart Theatre
Attendance: Mandatory for all dancers.
Additional Notes:
Younger dancers, such as those in Wee Dance and Combo classes, will have shorter rehearsal commitments
There is a break between the dress rehearsal and the evening performance
What are the Costume and Appearance Guidelines?
Costumes:
Dancers are responsible for their own undergarments, tights, and shoes
Specific requirements vary by class level. For detailed information, please refer to the Recital 2025 page.
Hair:
Our standard style is a center-part low bun, suitable for various dance styles and hair types.
Dancers with short hair should consult with their teacher for appropriate styling options.
Makeup:
Makeup guidelines are provided to ensure a uniform appearance on stage.
For specifics, please refer to the Recital 2025 page.
Are Parents Allowed Backstage?
To ensure dancer safety and privacy, parents are not permitted backstage during dress rehearsals or the performance. We have a team of experienced backstage supervisors to assist dancers. However, parents are welcome to volunteer for backstage supervision roles. If interested, please reach out to us.
What Items Should Dancers Bring?
Recommended Items:
Water Bottle: Staying hydrated is essential.
Non-Messy Snacks: Simple snacks are permitted. Please avoid items like popcorn or chocolate pudding.
Emergency Kit: Consider packing safety pins, a needle and thread, nail clippers, extra hair ties, and bobby pins.
Organization: To keep personal items organized, please bring a labeled laundry or storage basket. For those with quick costume changes, having two baskets—one for the dressing room and one for the quick-change area—is beneficial.
How Can Families Contribute to the Recital's Success?
Our recital thrives on community support. We're seeking volunteers for various roles, including:
Staging Day Greeting: Welcoming dancers and families during setup.
Theatre Load-In: Assisting with moving props, costumes, and equipment into the theatre.
Dress Rehearsal & Show Supervision: Helping backstage to ensure everything runs smoothly.
If you're interested in volunteering, please contact us. Your support enhances the experience for all our dancers.
