No Joke November: Why November is One of the Best Months for Dance Gains

We affectionately call November “No Joke November” at LPD.

By the time November rolls around, dancers have settled into their routines and have found their rhythm. This is the month when all that early-season groundwork starts to pay off.

September: Finding Our Feet

September is all about settling in. Dancers are getting to know their teachers, their classmates, and the flow of their new classes. It’s an exciting time, but also one where we see our first wave of sniffles and absences. Everyone’s adjusting and that’s okay!

October: Building Momentum (With a Few Distractions)

By October, routines feel more familiar and confidence grows. But let’s be honest, Halloween week brings a little chaos!

November: Locking In

And then comes November the golden month for growth. We have consistency, trust, and stamina on our side. Dancers know what’s expected, their bodies are stronger, and they can push harder. This is when we start to:

  • Move more efficiently through combinations

  • Build endurance and strength

  • Tackle new steps and skills

  • Deepen focus and confidence

It’s a month of “lock-in” mentality, the sweet spot before the holiday season when all bets are off and schedules get busy again.

December: Reinforcing the Wins

When December arrives, we take time to reinforce those November gains without the same intensity or expectation. It’s about maintaining strength, reflecting on growth, and celebrating progress before the holiday break.

Your Dancer Challenge: Keep the Momentum Going

November is the perfect time to reinforce good habits:

  • Arrive early and prepared. Give yourself time to settle and focus.

  • Stay hydrated and nourished. A strong body needs fuel.

  • Create space to focus. Whether it’s journaling, meditating, doing a brain dump, or chatting with mom or dad before class, find what helps you show up present and ready to dance.

  • Follow up after class. Take a quick video, jot down choreography notes, or reflect on something you learned that felt exciting or challenging.

The effort dancers put in this month builds strength, confidence, and artistry that carries through the entire season.
