Innovative Ensemble Building
I believe that a cohesive, dynamic ensemble is the foundation of every compelling production. Whether crafting a classical theatre world, a contemporary narrative, or an abstract movement piece, my approach to ensemble building is rooted in collaboration and intentionality
My Philosophy
Building an ensemble is more than assigning roles; it’s about creating a family unit. For me, it’s essential to center the human experience, foster trust, and cultivate relationships that resonate both on stage and off. I’ve developed tailored exercises and thoughtful methodologies to ensure every member of the ensemble feels seen, valued, and connected to the creative process.
A Method Tailored to the Moment
Through years of experience as a director, choreographer, and intimacy director, I’ve honed a set of dynamic practices to:
Encourage chemistry, whether romantic, platonic, or communal.
Deepen character relationships to align with the production’s specific world.
Build immersive environments where trust and creativity thrive.
Clarity Through Collaboration
With the support of a mentor and a graphic designer, I’ve refined my process into an accessible, illustrated guide. This project isn’t just about improving my methods—it’s about making these tools available to the broader artistic community.
The Results
I’ve created a two-pronged guide that includes:
A Comprehensive Toolkit: A detailed guide for practitioners to integrate into their work.
A One-Pager Resource: A concise overview for non-profits and organizations to build cohesion in their own ensembles.
I’m sharing these tools with organizations I regularly collaborate with, such as Shakespeare by the Sea, Resource Centre for the Arts, and Poverty Cove Theatre. My goal is to empower artists and collaborators at every level.
