Starting the Year With an Open House

Every year, on the first Saturday after school starts, we open the doors at LPD before the dance season officially gets underway.

This year, our Open House is Saturday, September 12, and we're getting ready to welcome everyone back.

The Open House is practical. You can visit the studio, check out the space, ask questions, reconnect with teachers and friends, and make sure everyone knows where they're going.

But there's another reason we do it.

Practising the Routine

The beginning of September is a lot.

School starts. Bedtimes change. Morning routines reluctantly return. There are new teachers, new classrooms, new schedules, and a lot of information coming at families all at once.

We don't think the first dance class needs to be another brand-new thing to figure out.

Our Open House gives families an opportunity to practise the routine before classes begin.

Where are we going? Where do I put my things? Where will my grown-up pick me up? What does the studio look like? Who is my teacher?

For a returning dancer, it's a chance to reconnect with a familiar place after the summer.

For a dancer joining us for the first time, it can make that first class feel a little less like walking into the unknown.

Why Dedicated Times for Our Younger Dancers?

Saturdays at LPD are busy.

Once regular classes begin, we aren't able to accommodate parents of students in Combo Class and up in the studio while minors are present for privacy and security reasons. Open House gives our youngest dancers and their families an opportunity to experience the space together before we ask dancers to navigate it more independently.

That's why we've set aside dedicated times for Wee Dance and Combo before opening the doors to everyone else.

It's a chance to meet the teacher, see where things are, and get comfortable without the bustle of a regular Saturday at the studio.

Warming Up the Studio

We don't go from summer to our busiest Saturday overnight.

We start the season with a bit of a soft launch. Monday begins with some of our most experienced dancers in Company classes, and then our adult programming begins.

By the time Saturday arrives, the teachers have taught, the music has been playing, the floors have been danced on, and the building is warmed up and ready for one of our busiest days of the week.

Then we're off.

Bring Us Your Tiny Dance Shoes!

Our shoe bank is currently very depleted in our smallest sizes.

If you have gently used ballet, tap, or other dance shoes that your dancer has outgrown, we'd love to have them returned or donated at Open House. Those little shoes can make a big difference for another LPD family.

If your dancer needs shoes, you're also welcome to have a look through what we have available.

See You at the Studio

You don't need to stay for the entire Open House. Drop in, say hello, get reacquainted with the space, ask the question you've been meaning to ask, check out the shoe bank, and help your dancer get a feel for the routine ahead.

Mostly, we're looking forward to seeing everyone again.

A new dance year means new skills, new music, new challenges, new friendships, and plenty of familiar faces.

We're ready to start another fabulous year with you.
