Makeup

Please note that LPD’s standard make-up is a neutral eye with a black liner and a berry lip.

A berry is preferred over a red lip (even though red is Miss Lynn’s personal fav) because it is universally flattering and complements all costume colours.

We use makeup because the lights used on stage and in film erase facial features. Using makeup helps restore those features and creates a unified look.

If you are sensitive to eyeliner, wet an angled brush and dip it in your eyeshadow. You can create a thin line without using a pencil or liquid liner.

Wee Dance

Parent’s Preference. People have a different level of comfort and skin can be sensitive at this age.

Reminders

LPD aims to ensure a stress-free, fun, and professionally produced performance experience for dancers and their families. We couldn’t be more delighted to share how hard everyone has worked and how much they have grown this year.

Rehearsals

Where possible dancers should keep excellent attendance in the weeks leading up to the recital. The recital is a group effort and everyone has a part to play in creating a strong performance.

LPD has invested in additional rental time at the theatre to ensure dancer safety and confidence. These rehearsals are mandatory.

Suit Up 

I ask that all students “suit up” instead of wearing sweats and dance clothes on show night. This simply means that students arrive at the theatre in their costumes or in “nice” attire. It lends etiquette and formality to the occasion and results in a better performance. There’s no need to purchase anything new!

Traditions

Dancers typically receive flowers at the end of a recital. This tradition was popularized in the 1820s. The aristocracy would take the flowers from their hair and jackets and toss them on stage after performances. Since then, audiences often gift flowers to performers after a show. This is not mandatory, but many folks take part in the tradition.

Backstage 

Parents are not permitted “backstage” during the dress rehearsal, or show. I will have excellent backstage supervisors to greet the children as they arrive and help them set up their things. If you would like to volunteer to help backstage you are more than welcome. 

Hold the Flash

There is no flash photography permitted in the theatre as it is a safety hazard for the dancers and a distraction to your fellow audience members. A professional photographer has been hired to document the recital and pictures will be available for purchase. I also encourage the audience to put their phones away so that everyone can enjoy the live performance experience. 

Recital Organization

Please label all dance shoes and personal items and bring a laundry, or ordinary basket with you to store items in. This ensures that costumes and personal items are contained and organized. If you have a quick change we recommend bringing two baskets, one for your dressing room and one for the quick change area.
