Getting Started at Lynn Panting Dance
Starting something new can feel exciting, and sometimes a little overwhelming. At LPD, we aim to make the process simple, welcoming, and clear for both dancers and their families.
Whether your child is stepping into a studio for the first time or continuing their training, we’re here to help you find the right fit and feel confident walking through the door.
Finding the Right Class
We place dancers based on age, experience, and readiness, with a strong focus on long-term development and confidence.
Wee Dance (Ages 3–5)
A creative, play-based introduction to movement. Dancers build coordination, rhythm, and confidence through imagination, music, and storytelling.
Combo Class
A bridge between creative movement and structured training. Dancers are introduced to ballet and tap while continuing to build confidence and foundational skills.
Level 1 and Up
This is where technical training begins. Dancers are developmentally ready to engage with structure, alignment, and discipline in a way that is safe and supportive.
From Level 1 onward, dancers may explore styles like ballet, jazz, tap, modern, and more. Many choose to train in multiple styles, building versatility and artistry over time.
We intentionally don’t rush technique, strong foundations lead to confident, capable dancers.
If you’re unsure where to start, we’re happy to guide you.
What Your First Class Will Feel Like
Your child’s first dance class is a big moment.
Some dancers walk in ready to go. Others need time to settle. Both are completely normal.
Our classes are designed to be:
structured
creative
supportive
We focus on helping dancers feel safe, seen, and successful in the room.
How to Prepare
A few simple things will help your dancer feel ready:
Dress the part
Dancewear acts like a uniform, it helps dancers step into the experience with confidence.Hair secured
Long hair should be tied back. Ballet students will require a bun.Arrive a few minutes early
This helps your dancer transition into the space calmly.Talk it through
Let your child know what to expect: a class where they’ll move, listen, and have fun.Know that adjustment is normal
Some children jump right in, others take time. We support both.
What to Expect at the Studio
Classes begin on time and follow a consistent structure
Dancers are encouraged to develop independence in a supportive environment
To support focus, safety, and independence, parents do not attend classes. Wee Dance dancers (ages 3–5) may have one parent/guardian present. Saturdays are especially busy, and this structure helps us create a calm, focused environment where all dancers can thrive.
Our instructors prioritize both learning and experience
We are building not just dancers, but confident, capable young people.
