International Dance Day Community Flash Mob
Over the years, Lynn Panting Dance has taken on a variety of creative projects: some small, some experimental, and some that quietly planted seeds for what came next. While these initiatives may not have an ongoing presence at the studio, they continue to reflect the values that guide our work: accessibility, creativity, and community connection. The Legacy Projects series offers a space to revisit and share these moments.
In celebration of International Dance Day 2017, DanceNL commissioned Lynn Panting to create and teach a fun, accessible flash mob routine for dancers and non-dancers alike.
Set to Waterfront Fire’s “Just Breathe It In,” the choreography was shared through a series of outreach workshops. Lynn led 387 participants—ranging in age from 6 to 64—through the moves, bringing together classrooms, community groups, and curious individuals from across the city.
The project culminated in a spirited public performance at Harbourside Park on International Dance Day. It was a joyful moment of connection through movement, reminding us how dance can bring people together, no stage required.
